A testimonial to Carlo Catani, Chief Engineer of the Public Works Dept, on his retirement, April 28th, 1917. Bound in leather the testimonial contains a page of illustrations of Catani's chief works and two pages of signatures. Also enclosed in separate envelope are newspaper cuttings regarding the Catani Gardens and the unveiling of theclock tower at St. Kilda, 1932.

Carlo Catani was born April 22nd,1852 and was the son of a merchant. He obtained a degree in civil engineering in Italy and migrated to Australia with two friends, also engineers. He undertook a position as draughtsman with the Lands Department and later joined the Public Works Dept., eventually assuming the role of Chief Engineer.
